Literacy: Writing & Reading

English is taught everyday in Reception and we follow the split teach approach when delivering a new topic and our weekly sessions. This means that all our children have differentiated work that they can access with support from an adult or can carry out independently.

Focus in Reception for Writing:

- Can write own name and other things like labels & captions

- Use clearly identifiable letters in their writing

- Hears and says initial sounds in the words

- Can segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together

- Attempts to write short sentences

- Children can write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others
