Task 1

Can you sort and add your own words for happy and angry?

 

Watch the video about subordinating clauses. Can you use the clauses because, if, that and when to write about how Chang and the Emperor might be feeling at different points in the story?

 

Chang felt excited when he found the magic paintbrush.

The Emperor was furious when his boat capsized.

Task 2

This week we are changing part of the story.

 

Create a mind map of what Chang could paint to help people in his village.

 

 

 

 

Once you have created your mind map, pick your favourite three ideas and use them in a sentence with the conjunctions so or because.

Last week we created a story map for the Magic Paintbrush. This week we are creating a new story map but we are changing the three items that Chang painted. 

 

Here is the story map from last week to help you. Remember to label your story map with key words and phrases.

 

Task 4

Using your new story map write the beginning of your own version of the Magic Brush. 

 

Remember to include:

  • capital letters (for names of people and places)
  • capital letters (at the start of sentences)
  • full stops
  • finger spaces
  • adjectives
  • conjunctions

 

Remember to reread your work. Check that it makes sense.
