PE & Sports Curriculum Planning
In Key Stage 2 we teach dance, games, gymnastics, athletics and swimming. Year 6 also experience outdoor and adventurous activities during PE sessions and on their residential trip.
We provide at least 2 hours of P.E a week. Our long-term plan maps the PE & Sports skills that are taught in each half term during each key stage. The PE and Sports subject leader is responsible for designing the long-term plan in conjunction with curriculum leads across Leading Learners Academy Trust and class teachers. PE & Sports at Woodside Academy is taught every day by our Sport Coaches and each year group has an allocated time slot, the progression of skills taught and activities changes every half term.

Year 6 pupils are given the chance to take leadership within their PE sessions and lead their own warm up for the rest of the group in their dance session with an external coach.

Cheerleading
During this half term Year 6 pupils were learning cheerleading in their dance classes with the external coach.
Cheerleading sessions offer a mixed form of dance combining modern dance styles with aerobics, gymnastic and simple lifts. The children learn all the elements of cheerleading, including, cheer, kicks, dance, tumbling and jumps. It is a great way to promote confidence and interaction between all the children of different abilities and for them to perform together.
