LO: To solve one-step problems involving multiplication by calculation the answer using concrete objects
X means:
multiply
groups of
lots of
times
Find some objects in your house to help you find the answer to the multiplication questions below.
e.g 1x2= you will need 2 cubes as it is 1 group of 2 so the answer is 2
3 x2= you will need groups with 2 cubes in each so 6 cubes all together
Questions:
4 x2 = 9x2 = 8 x 2=
7 x2 = 6 x 2= 0 x2=
5 x2= 2x2 = 10 x 2=
Tuesday
LO: To solve one-step problems involving multiplication, by calculation the answer using pictorial representations.
Today we are going to use pictures to help us multiply. Look at the example below.
We needed 3 pairs of shoes because each pair is made up of 2.
So 3 groups of 2 equals 6.
Now try answering the questions below by drawing the correct amount of shoes and working out the answer by counting in 2 ( as we are multiplying by 2).
2 x2= 3 x2 = 1x 2 =
4 x4 = 7 x 2= 5 x2 =
6 x2 = 10 x 2= 0 x 2=
Wednesday
LO: To solve one-step problems involving multiplication by calculation the answer using arrays with the support of a teacher.
Look at the example below on how to multiply using arrays.
As you can see from the example we need to have 2 dots in each group (as we are multiplying by 2) and then depending on the amount we are multiplying by we need that number of groups.
Have a go at the questions below by drawing the arrays yourself.
2 x2= 3 x2 = 1x 2 =
4 x4 = 7 x 2= 5 x2 =
6 x2 = 10 x 2= 0 x 2=
Thursday
LO: To solve one-step problems involving multiplication, by calculation the answer using pictorial representations.
Today we are going to be multiplying by 5 using pictures to help us.
Look at the example below.
The example show 3 groups of hands. We have 5 fingers on each hand so that is 3 groups of 5. You can use the number line to count on 5s to find the answer.
3 x5 = 15
Now have a go at the questions below by drawing out the hands and counting how many fingers on each hand. Try counting in 5s to work out the answer.
2 x 5 = 9 x 5= 0 x 5 =
4 x 5 = 1 x 5 = 7 x 5 =
10 x 5 = 6 x 5= 8 x 5=
