Week 2 - 6th-10th November

This week in phonics we are reading the poem 'Poppy, Poppy' and looking at words that rhyme. What are rhyming words? (When words have the same sound at the end, that means that they rhyme).

Poppy Poppy what do you say?

Wear me on Remembrance day.

Poppy Poppy what do you tell?

Many soldiers in battle fell

Poppy Poppy what should we know?

That peace on earth should grow, grow grow!

Read it a few times, once your child is familiar with it pause just before you say the rhyming word and see if they can shout it out.

Have a look at the pictures below together, naming them. Afterwards see if they can tell you which pictures rhyme with the word 'mat'? Which picture is the odd one out?

Read rhyming picture books together or listen to rhyming stories e.g. Llama, Llama, Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. Click on the link below to listen to the story.
