Electricity

This week we are continuing to learn about electricity.

Monday

LO: To find the effects of adding extra batteries to a circuit

Watch the teacher input video first and then complete the tasks.

Monday's input 1

Here is a simple circuit:

In the circuit above, there is only one bulb, one battery (cell) and two crocodile wires.

Task 1: Watch the power of batteries video (on the BBC link below) to find out the key functions of a battery in a circuit.

Today we are learning about the effect of adding more batteries to a circuit.

Task 2: Answer the following question:

What do you think will happen if we add another battery in the circuit? Would it make a difference?

Let's investigate!!!

Task 3: Watch the video below to follow the investigation of adding extra batteries to a simple circuit.

Use the 'Investigation help sheet' to structure your investigation write up.

Tuesday

LO: To find ways to change the brightness of a bulb

Watch the teacher input video first then complete the tasks.

The brightness of bulbs in a simple circuit depends on the number of bulbs and the number of cells (batteries). As the number of bulbs in the circuit increases, each light bulb gets less energy. This means each light bulb shines less brightly.

Also, from our investigation yesterday, we found out that if the number of cells (batteries) in the circuit increases and the number of light bulbs stays the same, then the light bulb will shine brightly.

Task 1: Watch the video (on the BBC Bitesize link below) to find out how voltage affects the brightness of a bulb.

Task 2: Complete the circuit by adding another cell (battery) to make the light bulb glow brighter.

Task 3: Complete the following activity. Think about the number of cells/bulbs that are in the circuit. Explain your answers.

Wednesday

LO: To investigate how to use electricity safely

Watch the teacher input video first then complete the tasks.
