Phase 1 Aspect 3 - General sound discriminations - Body Percussion
Sing head, shoulders, knees and toes song together.
Afterwards demonstrate using your body to make different sounds such as clapping your hands, stamping your feet, clicking your fingers). Practice taking it in turns with your child making different body sounds. Perform a pattern of body sounds for your child to copy and vice versa.
Phase 1 Aspect 4 - Rhythm and Rhyme
Sing together your child's favourite nursery rhyme. Afterwards share a book that has a familiar repeating/rhyming pattern (The Gingerbread Man). Explain that the word 'Gingerbread' is a long word - clap out the syllables (3). Ask your child to clap out the syllables with you.
Read the book again and can your child practice the repeating words, can they finish the rhyming line e.g. Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me ___ ____ _______ ____.
Phase 2
Look at the ‘s’ sound – Play I spy with my little eye. Have different objects that begin with the s sound and some that don’t. Children to find an object that begins with the ‘s’ phoneme. Could use objects around your home e.g. socks, sift, salt, sunglasses, spider, soap, soup and scissors. Afterwards model writing the 's' sound and for your child to have a try.
