This week we will be learning about Superheroes! We will be reading the story 'Supertato' by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.
After reading or listening to the story a couple of times with your child, talk about the events in the story. Who are the characters? Which one is your favourite character and why? What happens at the beginning of the story? What happened at the end of the story? What happened first, next, after? What was your favourite part of the story and why? If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Mark Making Activities
Why not try writing with different vegetables. Talk about the marks your child makes, such as What do the marks look like? Was the vegetable easy to use? What have you written? Which vegetable did you select and why? Can they practice writing their names, talking about the initial sound in their name.
Superheroes use lots of powerful words when they are saving people and fighting crimes. Can you find some superpower words with your adult? What sounds did you recognise in the words? Can you have a try at writing the words? Continue to practice writing the sounds 's', 'a', 't' 'p' 'i' and 'n'.
Can you create your own supertato to come to the rescue or your own super vegetable! You can use vegetables, felt tip pens, paper or different material or anything else you can find to make your own character and use it to retell the story or make up your own exciting adventures!.
Can you draw your own supertato or super vegetable and label your picture. Can you think of a name to call your superhero? What initial sound can you hear in the name? Can you try and write the sound?
Discuss who are superheroes? Why are they super? What do they do? Who can be superheroes? How can we help people? Who might need help? Discuss and research real life superheroes. Who helps us at home? At school? Talk about police officers, firefighters, nurses and doctors and how they help us.
Why not dress up and play superheroes! Make superhero masks and capes using paper plates, material and boxes etc.
Can you make a wanted poster for the Evil pea?
