Phase 1 - Rhythm and Rhyme
Take in turns to sing favourite nursery rhymes together and make a book of your favourite nursery rhymes to sing throughout the day.
Play I spy with my little eye, something that rhymes with hat...cat
Chair-stair
cat-bat
spoon -moon
bed-ted
Read books with predictable rhymes that your child is familiar with and stop as you come to the final word in the rhyme. Invite your child to complete it. Use plenty of intonation and expression as the story or rhyme is recounted.
Phase 2 activities
Write the sounds 's' and 'a' on to separate pieces of paper. Pin each sound up and say words starting with ‘a’ or ‘s’ phoneme. Can your child stand next to the right sound?
Write the sounds s,a,t,p,i,n on to separate pieces of paper for your child. Show your child a word but don't say it. Ask them to put their letters in the same order, afterwards sounding it out together t-a-p. Words - tap, pat, tin, pin. at, as, sin, in).
