This week in Nursery we will be looking at the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The story is about a little caterpillar who is very hungry!
Whilst watching the story, encourage your child to join in with the repeated parts of the story e.g."...but he was still hungry" and counting the different food "One, two, three plums...". Ask your child to guess what food the caterpillar might eat next. Talk about your favourite food together and at the end of the story, recap the different foods that the caterpillar ate.
Name the four stages of a caterpillar life cycle with your child (egg, caterpillar, cocoon and butterfly).
The caterpillar is wanting help in remembering all the food he ate. Can you help him write a list of food so he can tell his caterpillar friends what to eat so they can turn in to butterflies too. The very hungry caterpillar says fruit would be the best things for them to eat. Can you make sure you add fruit onto your list.
Why not make your very own caterpillar handprint. Click on the link below to watch the PowerPoint for instructions on how to make a caterpillar handprint and the resources you'll need.
Hunt the food
Can you find the different food in the picture? What food did you find? Where did you find it? Encourage your child to use positional language - under, on top, next to, above and between.
