Writing

Monday 17th  May

To spell the days of the week.

Explain that this week we will be looking at diaries and we will be writing our own.

Why do we need diaries?

Look at the diary below. Can you see the date? Why do days of the week need capital letters?

Today we are going to practise spelling days of the week to use in our diaries later on this week.

Below are the days of the week. Put them in order than practise spelling them.

Now apply them into a sentence.  Remember days of the week need capital letters.

Examples...

On Monday we have PE and we also have science.

On Tuesday we have kickboxing with Mr McNaulty.

Wednesday 19th May

When would we use a capital letter?

Can you identify them in this diary.

Dear Diary
On Monday it was school photo day. We had a class photo with all of our teachers. Mrs Kent came in the photograph and so did Miss Browne.

On Tuesday I did not see Magpie class in the morning because I was in a meeting. They used the iPads and had kickboxing with Mr McNaulty.

Today we are going to write a Monday diary entry.

Remember to use capital letters for days of the week when writing your entry. You also need to use

  • capital letters at start of sentences
  • full stops at the end of the sentences
  • spaces between words
  • 'and' to extend sentences

Thursday 21st May

LO: To use suffixes ed within my writing.

When we write a diary we have to write in past tense. This is because we are writing about what has happened. For our writing we might need to use some words with the suffix ed. Here are some examples of words with the suffix ed.

jumped
laughed
watched
talked
helped

We are going to use these words to write a diary entry about Wednesday.

Example

Dear Diary

On Wednesday I met my friends at the park. We laughed at some jokes and then we went to get an ice cream. Then we walked to the shops and bought some lunch.

Now write your own Wednesday diary entry. Remember to use:

  • capital letters for days of the week
  • capital letters for starts of sentences
  • full stops at the end of sentences
  • spaces between words
  • the suffix ed

Friday 22nd May

LO: To sequence sentences in chronological order

Today we are writing our own diary entry for this week.

Use the frame above to support your diary entry writing.

Remember to use our skills from this week. They are:

  • capital letters for days of the week
  • the suffix 'ed' in your writing
  • spaces between words
  • full stops at the end of sentences
  • capital letters for names of people
  • capital letters at the start of sentences
